Stick Fighter is a one-on-one brawler with a roster of deliberately ridiculous stick figures — Sticky Steve, Jack Chumbo, Scarmichael, Batthew, Creepy Carol and the rest — each with their own moveset. Fights are short, quick rounds decided by a handful of good reads, and every character has a special and an ultimate that change how their matchup plays out.

There is more to it than a single fight. Endless mode keeps feeding you opponents to see how long a fighter can hold out, Rivals mode gives the run some structure, and clearing fights unlocks new fighters and colors. If you have someone next to you, the versus mode puts two players on the same keyboard, which is where the game is at its best.

How to play Stick Fighter?

Learn one fighter properly before you go shopping through the roster — the movesets differ enough that button-mashing a character you have never used usually loses to someone playing a basic fighter well. Watch your ultimate meter and hold it rather than firing it the moment it fills, since the round often comes down to landing it while your opponent is committed to an attack. Movement matters as much as offense: stepping back and letting a special whiff is a free opening.

Controls

Desktop: Each fighter has move, jump, attack, special, and ultimate actions. Player 1 and Player 2 use separate halves of the keyboard, and both layouts can be reassigned on the in-game CONTROLS screen.
