Harvest Loop

Harvest Loop is a farming game with exactly one job in it, and it makes that job feel good. A little farmer in a straw hat walks through fields of bright green crops with a scythe out in front, and every plant the blade touches is cut and stacked into a bag. Walk a straight line and a clean brown strip opens up behind you; a percentage bar at the top of the screen fills as the field empties.

The bag has a capacity, and when it is full you walk back to the green dollar pad to sell everything for coins. A blue pad next to it opens the upgrade menu, which has three lines: capacity, so you can carry more before a trip; speed, so the trips are shorter; and size, which widens the scythe so each pass cuts a bigger swath. That is the whole loop the title promises. Cut, sell, upgrade, cut faster.

Each upgrade is a small step, but they compound quickly. Early on you clear a field one thin strip at a time; a few purchases later the blade takes out several rows at once and the percentage bar jumps with every pass. Filling the bar unlocks more of the farm, with fences opening onto bigger fields and larger harvests.

There is no failure state, no timer and nothing that can hurt you. The game is closer to a satisfying chore than a challenge, and it is easy to lose fifteen minutes to it without noticing, which is the point of a game like this.

The 3D look is clean and blocky, with a fenced farm, tree lines around the edge and a vertical bar on the right that tracks the current field. It loads quickly and runs well on modest hardware.

How to play Harvest Loop?

Mow in long straight lines rather than wandering, so the bag fills on the way out and you turn around near the sell pad on the way back. Buy speed first, because it shortens every trip, then alternate capacity and size once the field starts to open up. Check the percentage bar to see how much of the field is left, and do not sell with a half-empty bag unless the upgrade you want is one trip away.

Controls

Desktop: move with WASD or the arrow keys, or click and drag to steer with the on-screen joystick. Walk onto the dollar pad to sell and the blue pad to open upgrades, then click the buttons to buy. Touch screens: drag anywhere to move.
