Fruits of Fury

Fruits of Fury is a wave-survival action game with a very specific premise: you are a ninja, the produce has turned evil, and your job is to keep a watering can alive. Fruit and vegetables pour in from the edges of the arena wave after wave, and you turn them into juice with punches, dashes and thrown shuriken before they reach the can.

The enemy roster is the whole grocery aisle. Bananas, oranges, pears, lemons and strawberries come first; later waves bring carrots, onions, peppers, coconuts, grapefruit, watermelons and peaches, each with its own speed and toughness. Boss waves are announced by name, and titles like King Blueberry, Pear Royalty and Rock Candy tell you roughly what kind of trouble is walking in.

Between waves you level up and choose upgrades that reshape your kit: faster punches, a shorter dash cooldown, more shuriken, extra health for the can. The build you end up with is different every run, which is what makes the game worth replaying once you have seen the first few waves.

The arena is small and the pace is fast. A dash gets you across the field in an instant, so most of the skill is in choosing which side of the can to defend right now and trusting the cooldown to bring you back before the other side collapses. A kill counter and a score keep track of how far each run got.

It runs on the Defold engine and has the crunchy pixel-art feel that goes with it. The whole thing is playable with a mouse and a few keys, and a short built-in tutorial covers the basics before the first wave arrives.

How to play Fruits of Fury?

Stay close to the watering can rather than chasing fruit into the corners; everything is coming to you anyway. Use the dash to reposition, not to attack, and save shuriken for the tougher fruit that punches take too long to finish. When a boss wave is announced, clear the small fry first so you are not surrounded when it lands. On the upgrade screen, take cooldown reductions early and damage later, since a ninja who can always dash is a ninja who is always where the fruit is.

Controls

Desktop: move with the keyboard and left click to attack. Skills such as the dash and shuriken are bound to keys shown on their buttons during a fight. Menus and upgrades are picked with the mouse.
