World of Screw

World of Screw is the screw sorting puzzle done in 3D. In front of you is an object, a toy plane, a hot dog, an octopus, held together by dozens of coloured screws, and your job is to take every one of them out and put it somewhere it belongs.

The trays at the top of the screen are where they go. Each tray takes three screws of one colour and clears itself once it is full, and the colour a tray wants is fixed the moment the first screw lands in it. That is the entire puzzle: you only have a few trays open at once, so every screw you pull commits one of your very limited slots.

When the trays are full and you pull a screw anyway, it goes into the jar at the side. The jar is your buffer and it is small, and filling it is how you lose. It is the same tension as a card game where you can only hold so many, except the cards are bolts and the deck is a plastic dinosaur.

Screws are also physically in the way of each other. Parts of the model are held on by particular screws, and some screws are blocked by the panel sitting over them, so you cannot just take them in colour order. You have to take a panel off to reach what is under it, which means the order you dismantle the thing in is a real decision and not just colour matching.

You can spin the model and zoom in on it, which you need to do, because screws hide round the back and the counter at the top tells you exactly how many are left. There are boosters when a board goes wrong, including one that opens an extra tray and one that empties the jar back out, so a bad run is recoverable if you spend them at the right moment.

It is calm, there is no timer, and it is one of the better things here to leave open in a tab, though the later models with ninety or more screws will absolutely beat you if you stop paying attention.

How to play World of Screw?

Click a screw to unscrew it and it flies to a tray of its colour. Three of a colour in one tray clears it. Watch how many trays are open before you start pulling, because an open tray locked to a colour you have run out of is a dead slot. Rotate the model and look at the back before you commit, take the screws that free up panels first so you can reach what is underneath, and keep the jar as empty as you can. If the jar fills, the run is over.

Controls

Mouse only. Left click a screw to remove it, drag to rotate the model, and use the slider at the side to zoom in and out. On a phone or tablet it is taps and drags. There are no keyboard controls.

Play World of Screw unblocked in your browser

World of Screw runs in the browser with nothing to download and no account to make, which is why it opens on a school Chromebook and behind the filters most schools have running.

Who created World of Screw?

World of Screw was made by Seal Unicorn Games and built in Unity. The studio is named as the company in the build's own metadata, so this is taken from the game files themselves.

Can I play World of Screw on mobile and desktop?

Both work and both play the same, since it is all pointing and clicking. It is a landscape build, so it uses the full width of a Chromebook or laptop screen properly.
