Basketball REAL is a 3D basketball game from splax.net, the developer of Soccer REAL and American Football REAL. You choose a team, pick a position from point guard to center, and then play out possessions from a camera behind your player, shooting, dunking and going up for rebounds against a computer-controlled defense.

The position choice changes what you are asked to do. Guards live on the perimeter and take more jump shots, forwards work the mid-range and drive to the rim, and a center spends more time under the basket fighting for rebounds and dunks. The game tracks points and dunks separately, so a big inside player scores differently from a sharpshooter.

There is a growth system underneath the matches: your player improves as you play, and when a game goes badly the game tells you to keep your growth and try again. Coins collected along the way go toward unlocks, and a training mode lets you practice shots without an opponent.

Controls are pointer-based like the rest of the REAL series. A press starts the action, a drag sets the direction, and releasing lets the shot go, so the whole game is played with one finger or one mouse button.

Games are short, the arena is small and the loop is quick, which makes it a good pick-up-and-play basketball game rather than a full simulation.

How to play Basketball REAL?

Select your team and a position, then wait for the ball. When you have possession, press and hold to start a shot, drag to aim it, and release to let it go. Close to the rim, a release turns into a dunk. On defense, keep your player between the ball and the basket and go up for the rebound after a miss. Keep playing to grow your player, and use training mode to get the shot timing down before you take on a full game.
