Gold from a sale goes straight into your base and your gear. A better pickaxe breaks harder rock, which opens up deeper layers with more valuable ores, which pays for the next upgrade. Along the way the caves throw in secret ruins that appear without warning and hand out buffs and rewards, so it is worth exploring sideways rather than only digging straight down.
How to play Adventure Miner?
Do not walk back to sell after every swing. The trip is the slow part, so mine until your stack is genuinely tall and make the journey count. Spend early gold on the pickaxe before anything cosmetic, since the deeper ores are where the real money is and a weak pickaxe simply cannot reach them. If a ruin appears, take the detour; the buffs are usually worth more than the ore you skipped.
