Punchy Guy hands you a boxing glove on the end of a long springy arm and asks you to hit exactly one thing with it. You are looking down the arm in first person, there is a crosshair on the glove, and somewhere in front of you is the yellow guy you are supposed to flatten.
What makes it a game rather than a reflex test is that he hides. A level might be a row of black silhouettes on a sofa with the yellow one sitting among them, or a small figure tucked behind a television, or a shape half out of frame. Punch the wrong one and the level is over. The whole thing is find him first, swing second.
Everything is physics. The targets are proper ragdolls, so a good hit sends limbs everywhere and the game holds on it for a beat before moving you on, which is most of why people keep clicking next. The glove itself has weight to it and the arm whips rather than jabs.
You charge the punch instead of just firing it. There is a lightning meter that fills while you hold, and a fuller charge hits harder and further, which matters on the levels where the target is at the back of the room or behind something you need to knock out of the way first.
There are hundreds of levels and they are all short, thirty seconds at the outside. New punch types unlock as you go, and there is a set of skins for the glove, so there is a slow drip of unlocks under what is otherwise a very simple loop. Levels you cannot solve can be skipped.
It is portrait shaped, silly, completely bloodless, and about as low commitment as anything on the site, which is exactly what it is for.
How to play Punchy Guy?
Find the yellow guy in the scene before you do anything else. Line the crosshair up on him, hold to charge the punch until the meter is where you want it, then let go. A harder charge reaches further and hits things out of the way, so save the full ones for targets at the back or behind cover. Hit the wrong figure and you restart the level, so take the extra second to look.
Controls
Mouse only. Move the mouse to aim, hold the left button to charge the punch, release to swing. On a phone or tablet it is a drag to aim and a tap and hold to charge. Nothing is bound to the keyboard.
